Period-correct trim for Cranbury's historic village

Cranbury's village is one of the best-preserved in the area. Most of the houses along Main Street and the side streets date from the 1840s to the 1880s, and Greek Revival is the most common style, followed by Federal, Italianate and Victorian. Many are two-and-a-half-story frame houses with center-hall or side-hall plans, paneled entries with sidelights and transoms, and the kind of interior trim that's worth keeping.

In those houses, the job is usually matching and repairing: reproducing a missing run of casing, rebuilding a stair rail, or adding a built-in that looks like it was always there. Outside the village, the newer homes tend to need the opposite: crown, wainscoting, coffered ceilings and built-ins that give big, plain rooms some character.

I come out, measure, and give you a written estimate. Then I do the work myself and walk it with you when it's done. No crew rotating through, and no project manager in the middle.

Questions from Cranbury homeowners

My house is in Cranbury's historic district. Does that affect interior work?

Usually not. Historic review is aimed at changes to the outside of the house, so interior trim and built-ins generally aren't affected. If any part of your project touches the exterior, check with Cranbury Township first and I'll plan around it.

Can you match Greek Revival trim in my house?

Usually, yes. Greek Revival casings and door surrounds are wide and simple, often with corner blocks or a molded head. I can build them up from stock pieces or have a custom profile run so new work matches the old.

My house was built before 1978. Does that matter for trim replacement?

It can. Removing old painted trim in a pre-1978 home may disturb lead paint, so the work has to follow lead-safe practices.

How soon can you start?

I start New Jersey jobs on December 10, 2026. You can request an estimate now, and I'll get on your calendar for a site visit as soon as I'm in town.
