Old-house finish work in Hopewell and Pennington
The boroughs of Hopewell and Pennington have long blocks of 1800s and early-1900s houses: Foursquares with full-width porches, Victorians, Colonial Revivals and farmhouses. Out in Hopewell Township there are more farmhouses mixed in with newer homes on bigger lots.
Old houses are my favorite kind of work, and they take patience. Floors have settled, walls are out of plumb, and nothing is square. New trim has to be scribed to fit, and original casings, plinth blocks and stair parts are usually worth repairing or reproducing instead of replacing with something off the shelf.
In the newer homes, the work is usually the reverse: built-ins, paneling and farmhouse-style details that make a new house feel settled.
What I do in Hopewell and Pennington:
-
Baseboard, casing, and window trim, including matching original profiles
-
Crown molding, wainscoting, and paneling
-
Built-in bookcases, window seats, and mudroom benches
-
Stair parts and railings
-
Interior door and window installation
-
Porch trim, columns, and railings

Questions from Hopewell & Pennington homeowners
My floors aren't level. Can new trim still look right?
Yes. I scribe baseboard and casing to the floor and walls instead of forcing them straight, so the trim follows the house and the gaps disappear.
Can you repair my original woodwork instead of replacing it?
Usually, yes. Damaged sections of casing, base or stair parts can often be patched or reproduced to match, so the original work stays in the house.
Do you work on porches?
Yes. Most of my work is interior, but I also replace porch columns, railings, balusters and trim on older homes.
How soon can you start?
I start New Jersey jobs on December 10, 2026. You can request an estimate now, and I'll get on your calendar for a site visit as soon as I'm in town.
