From Main Street's old houses to Lawrence's split-levels
Lawrence Township covers a lot of ground. Along Main Street in Lawrenceville there are 18th- and 19th-century houses and old taverns, part of a historic district listed at the national, state and local levels. Most of the rest of the township is postwar: ranches, split-levels and colonials with flat stock trim that's due for an upgrade.
Split-levels get a lot of my attention. The half-flights of stairs usually have dated railings, the lower-level family room tends to be a dark box with nothing built in, and the trim is often the thinnest stuff the builder could find. New railings, a built-in wall with shelving and storage, and real casing and base make a big difference in how the house feels.
I come out, measure, and give you a written estimate. Then I do the work myself and walk it with you when it's done.

Questions from Lawrenceville homeowners
Can you replace the railings in my split-level?
Yes. I replace newels, rails and balusters on the short flights and make sure the new railing meets current code for height and baluster spacing.
Do you work on homes in the Main Street Historic District?
Yes. Interior trim and built-ins usually aren't affected by historic district rules, but exterior changes may be. Check with Lawrence Township on anything that touches the outside of the house, and I'll let you know if any part of the project might.
Can you build storage into a lower-level family room?
Yes. I build lower-level built-ins with materials that handle the extra moisture below grade, and I scribe them to the walls and floor so they look like they were always there.
How soon can you start?
I start New Jersey jobs on December 10, 2026. You can request an estimate now, and I'll get on your calendar for a site visit as soon as I'm in town.
