Trim and built-ins that belong in Princeton's older homes
I'm moving Dollard Construction Services from Arvada, Colorado to the Princeton area, and I'm booking New Jersey work starting December 10, 2026. Princeton is the center of where I'll be working.
A lot of Princeton's housing is older than most of what I worked on out West. Center-hall Colonial Revivals, Victorians, and stucco and stone houses around downtown and the western section often still have their original casings, tall baseboard and plaster walls. That kind of house usually calls for matching what's there rather than tearing it out. Newer homes on the edges of town tend to need the opposite: built-ins, paneled walls and trim upgrades that give plain rooms some character.
Either way, the job starts the same. I come out, measure, and give you a written estimate. Then I do the work myself and walk it with you when it's done. No crew rotating through, and no project manager in the middle.
What I do in Princeton:
-
Baseboard, casing, and window trim
-
Crown molding and wainscoting
-
Built-in shelving, bookcases, window seats, and entertainment walls
-
Closet systems
-
Stair parts and railings
-
Interior door and window installation

Questions from Princeton homeowners
Do I need approval for trim work in one of Princeton's historic districts?
Usually not for interior work. Princeton has about 20 locally designated historic districts, and historic review is aimed at changes to the outside of the house. Interior trim and built-ins generally aren't affected. If any part of your project touches the exterior, check with the municipality's historic preservation office first and I'll plan around it.
Can you match the original trim in my older Princeton home?
Usually, yes. If a stock profile is close, I'll use it. If not, I can build up a match from multiple pieces or have a custom profile run so new trim blends with what's already there.
My house was built before 1978. Does that matter for trim replacement?
It can. Removing old painted trim in a pre-1978 home may disturb lead paint, so the work has to follow lead-safe practices.
How soon can you start?
I start New Jersey jobs on December 10, 2026. You can request an estimate now, and I'll get on your calendar for a site visit as soon as I'm in town.
